Q. Any suggestions on the best way to mount digital photos printed on an Epson 1280 to an acid free foam core board without damage? (from Val Jolley)

Nothing lasts for ever and as Val knows, mounted media is eventually damaged by the acidic nature of glue. This process can be surprisingly quick. For an expert solution we turned to one Danny Chau, who has been printing and mounting photos for 20 years. He says:
“Buy acid free paper tapes with rice starch glue (usually Japanese), either to make photo corners or using the tape behind the photo by folding in half, so one half glues to the print and one half glues to the mount board. Acid free board is only acid free for a limited period, as the buffer inside absorbs the acid in the environment. Its effectiveness is reduced, usually in our present environment and an acid free board should be changed every 3-5 years for safety’s sake.”
