Roxio today released a downloadable update to its best-selling suite that will immediately enable DVD Double Layer (DL) data burning capabilities and allow consumers to nearly double the amount of valuable personal data they can record to a single DVD +R DL disc.

Several major hardware partners are currently evaluating Roxio Creator 7 OEM edition with double layer support.

For retail customers, double layer data burning capabilities are available immediately through the Roxio Updater, which automatically connects via the Internet to Roxio’s support site and informs customers when updates are available for download. Support for double layer video authoring for retail versions of Roxio Creator 7 will be released in the near future.

Rich Double Layer Burning Capabilities
Creator Classic: Data backup and audio disc creation component enables consumers to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a single DVD disc, which could include important documents and files such as users’ email database, spreadsheets, Word documents, or an estimated 2000 songs.
Drag-to-Disc: Packet-writing utility allows consumers to burn directly to a double layer DVD disc as simply and conveniently as dragging and dropping files over a desktop disc icon.
Disc Copier: Component for creating backup copies of CDs and DVDs will be enhanced in the near term to allow consumers to create near identical backups of non-encrypted dual-layer DVD movies.
DVD Builder: Authoring component for creating professional-looking DVDs, VCDs, and SVCDs of slideshows, movies, or recorded TV shows, will be released in the near future to permit consumers to create DVDs with up to 4 hours of DVD-quality video.
